Rory Pilgrim works across media in compositions, films, texts, paintings, drawings, workshops, and live performances. His artistic practice is interested in forms of community and models of inclusive coexistence in harmony between humans, technology, and nature. For the duo exhibition Where the Tide Takes Us - realized in dialogue with Karrabing Film Collective - Pilgrim combined existing and newly produced films, paintings, drawings, and objects to create an immersive ecosystem sustained by the rhythm of the tides.

A new edition of foil prints was created for the Kunstverein Braunschweig. The color-changing slogan Affection Is The Best Protection is borrowed from the video installation of the same name, which was shown in the Villa's Garden Room in spring 2021. In this film work, Pilgrim takes up the original concept of the installation as a compass which points in different directions of loving and surviving, and traces stories of queer communities in Dakar, St. Petersburg or Almere. In the search for affection, security and love, the catchy exclamation is both a reminder and a signpost.
