Nadira Husain weaves together graphic, painterly, and craft elements from different cultural backgrounds in her work. Comic figures, human silhouettes, and patterns of color and form are layered in the screen prints to create detailed, delicate motifs reminiscent of picture puzzles or textile prints. Each component of the image interpenetrates the others yet remains independent at the same time. Instead of a perspectival representation, Husain emphasizes the two-dimensionality of the individual elements.
