Markues presented his first solo institutional exhibition, Prima Quallerina, in the Remise, Kunstverein Braunschweig, in Autumn 2020. The exhibition produced the experience of drifting and displacement through spatial installation in the space, ornamental drawings and a series of weekly readings. For this year’s Kunstverein editions, Markues has provided his work The War Is Over (2017) from a series of watercolours called For the Men & the Others. Like all the paintings in this series, whose motifs reference songs of youth counterculture, activist slogans or divas popular with gay men, The War is Over consists of apparently abstract washes of colour that dissolve into each other, in which we can make out the blurry outline of the piece’s title.
