Juraj Černák’s (*1997 - ✝2024) artistic work encompasses a variety of media, from painting and photography to video and performance. His paintings, usually on large canvases or bed sheets, often feature creatures that are neither animal nor human, representing both the artist and his social environment. The search for one’s own identity and for relationships friendship, partnership, and sex are themes that the artist explores in his work. Černák’s early works are characterized by softness and tenderness.The work Lil’ Sprite depicts a creature in gentle pastel and powder tones emerging from a misty haze. Striking in this dreamlike idyll are the humanized facial features and the dark spot under the head that, upon closer inspection, seems to resemble the shape of a heart.
