Gleb Amankulov’s work is concerned with the labor conditions in art production and sheds light on the often precarious aspects of this way of life. His work questions both the commercialization of art and the fetishization of the art object within an economic and artistic context. Ohne Titel (2022) comes from a series of photographs taken in the homes of political activists and opponents of the Belarusian governmentafter being searched by the Belarusian State Security Agency. Most of the photos were taken by the security personnel themselves as a means of intimidation. Amankulov digitally altered the image by removing the destroyed and damaged objects as well as the interior design elements, editing them out of the picture. What remains is a void that refers to the disappearance of identity, privacy, and lived space.
