Dennis Siering
Unnatural Territories
Dennis Siering (*1983) deals with possible and actual scenarios of substantial change of our earth. He explores and designs landscape scenarios in the age of modern humankind, combining natural materials with synthetic ones. In this way, he creates models of landscapes that come across as questionable visions of the future, but in some aspects have long since corresponded to an inescapable reality of our present. Plastic is a recurring point of reference in Siering's artistic practice and the main subject of his constantly expanding online platform pyroplastics.org. As a material in mass circulation since the mid-20th century, plastic decomposes over time into increasingly smaller, almost overlookable particles due to natural abrasion, persists. Dennis Siering traces this interlocking and partial fusion in research, experiments and artworks. Synthetic substances have become part of our planet – and will remain so. For an incalculably long time.
In his first institutional solo exhibition, Dennis Siering shows installations and groups of works, of the last years, but above all numerous new productions, which were developed especially for the presentation in the Villa Salve Hospes.
