PERFORMANCE EVENING
Strangers, Neighbors and Lovers Alike
A performative tour by Barbara Kapusta & Steph Holl-Trieu
Start: 6 pm. Duration: approx 30-40 min.
In their performative tour through Villa Salve Hospes Barbara Kapusta and Steph Holl-Trieu recount both lived and fictional histories within and without its walls from the beginning of the 19th century until today. Tales of loss and friendship, labour and love move us through periods of its use and wear: as bourgeois residence, as nexus of the city’s social and intellectual life, as research institute for educational science, as language archive, and as a NS-Kunstverein (1941-1944).
The past weighs heavy on the present. Historical circumstances and conditions of the future are experienced narratively and, as we roam the house together, as a material body. The villa becomes a blueprint for the artists to trace the struggle for love today – for a love to resist private ownership and political repression, for love to hold us together as community.
Following the performance, an Artist Talk with Barbara Kapusta, Steph Holl-Trieu and Nina Emge will take place at 7 pm. In conversation with Benedikt Johannes Seerieder, curator of the exhibition WORDS DON'T GO THERE, the artists will discuss notions of community, the influence of historical and architectural imprints on coexistence, and the role of language and music.
Steph Holl-Trieu is an artist and writer based in Berlin and Vienna. Barbara Kapusta is an artist living in Vienna. Strangers, Neighbours and Lovers Alike is a continuation of their collaborative research on telling history through theory-fiction and discourse as performative practice.
Nina Emge reflects in her artistic practice on social dimensions of voice, silence and practices of listening. She lives and works in Zurich.
Regular admission, free for members.
Start of the performance is 6 pm. Please be there on time.
If the weather is fine, we will end the evening with cool drinks.
