Online conversation
about economic exploitation and social exclusion in prisons

Wed, May 10, 2023, 6pm – 7pm

Prisons are considered important institutions of the rule of law, but they deprive inmates of many basic rights and function as places of exclusion for those who are undesirable in society. At the same time, they enable companies to produce cheaply at the expense of the overexploitation of prisoners. Production in captivity is increasingly establishing itself in Europe as well, raising questions about the functioning of the so-called 'free market economy. Economic exploitation in prison is not least connected to gendered reproductive work and care work, which is also only performed under targeted exclusion mechanisms.

Ana Hoffner ex-Prvulovic* discusses these and similar connections with political scientist and activist Monika Mokre. They talk about current and past attempts to bring about social change: How can the institution of prison become intolerable?

The conversation will be via Zoom.
