PERFORMANCE: Christian Naujoks
Open-Air Concert in the Garden of Villa Salve Hospes
Principally a composer, Christian Naujoks makes work in various media, often informed by the seriality and cyclic form of diverse strands of minimal music and the extension of (post-)conceptual art procedures to the production and organization of sound. On stage, he can feign both naiveté and virtuosity, camouflaging one as the other as he effortlessly dresses up art as pop and vice versa.
Christian Naujoks’ work has been heard and seen in a wide range of contexts, from nightclubs to concert halls, art venues and the theatre including, most recently, Galerie Barbara Weiss, Berlin (2021), Galerie Max Mayer, Düsseldorf (2021), Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2020), KW Institute for Contemporary Art (with Sky Walking), Berlin (2020), Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara (with Ei Arakawa), CA (2019), Münchner Kammerspiele (2019), Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf (2018), Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg (2018), Vleeshal Middelburg (2017), Skulptur Projekte Münster 2017 (with Ei Arakawa and Dan Poston), Meakusma Festival (with Sky Waling), Eupen (2017), Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (2017) and Royal Academy of Arts (with Sung Tieu), London (2017). He released three solo albums on Berlin-based label Dial Records. Christian Naujoks was awarded the Villa Romana Prize in 2019.
