Es sollten viele sein und sie müssen nicht zusammenpassen, 2021
Talks and discussion with Fiona McGovern, Mona Jas and Achim Lengerer
As part of the project there have to be many, and they do(n’t) have to be reconciled with one another, 2021 at the Kunstverein Braunschweig, Fiona McGovern, Mona Jas and Achim Lengerer discuss different forms of collaboration between artists, curators and the public as participants.
Fiona McGovern’s talk focuses on the Kunstverein model, the role of art education, and concepts of hospitality. Mona Jas follows with reflections on constituent communities—the way an institution interacts with a variety of different communities. Lastly, Achim Lengerer is particularly interested in collaborative artistic work (publishing project Scriptings) and the relationship between the current project and his exhibition of the same name from 2007.
The talks will be followed by a panel discussion that will delve into and expand upon these ideas in the context of the exhibition at Kunstverein Braunschweig. All visitors are welcome to take part.
Fiona McGovern is a junior professor of curatorial practice and art education at the Institut für Bildende Kunst und Kunstwissenschaft at the University of Hildesheim. Her research focuses on the ethics of curating as well as feminist and queer theory. As a curator, McGovern has realized projects at venues including Bergen Kunsthall, ACUD Studio, Berlin, and the Halle für Kunst, Lüneburg.
Mona Jas is an artist and honorary professor at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin as well as director of the KinderKunstLabor St. Pölten. In 2017 she was a member of the advisory board for documenta 14, and the following year she took over the artistic direction of the mediation of the 10th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art. Jas has been a member of documenta fifteen’s advisory board Camp on Education since 2020.
Achim Lengerer’s artistic work deals with language and its forms of presentation and performance. Together with fellow artists, he founded the freitagsküche in Frankfurt am Main as well as the publication and production project Scriptings in 2009. The exhibition there have to be many, and they do(n’t) have to be reconciled with one another, curated by Lengerer at the Kunstverein Braunschweig in 2007, was the starting point for the current project at the Kunstverein.
